A dry wind rustled surrounding foliage, as a woman in a bright patterned haori paced along the desolate streets of outer Rukongai. Ever since becoming part of the elite of seretei, Momiji decided to put the rewards of her profession to what she considered a good cause, using half her pay as a shinigami to ease the necessities of misfortunate children in the less privileged districts, though, less privileged was somewhat of an understatement.

Many of the remote areas in Rukongai were completely unsuitable for young ones… kids were forced to survive like animals, stealing, hiding, fighting; with little chances of escaping to better lives. Those lucky enough… the ones who developed reiatsu, and obtained enough food to sustain themselves, could struggle to move on, and perhaps be recognized enough to enter the soul reaper academy, or at the very least attain an average life in the better districts.

It was an odd endeavor for someone belonging to the crude and bloodthirsty combat squad, however her love for fighting did not counteract her innate consideration of those who could not fend for themselves. Her long charity work route, often began from the sixtieth district and went on towards the more unforgiving areas, where bandits and killers where common place. More often than not, there were brushes with criminals, but that fact only strengthened Kazeaki’s resolve to help the innocent of such forsaken places.

Slightly wearied and with her shihakuso wrinkled and mottled with tiny hand prints of grime and dust, the woman pressed on, slowing her stride upon entering the 70th district. Her gaze carefully scanned her surroundings, deciphering the whereabouts of the usual makeshift shelters, were uncared youth’s found sanctuary. Something however gnawed at her instincts, most kids in the area were already familiar with her visits, and those who were not, had certainly heard rumors… yet none of them peeked out from their hiding places. Detecting some movement out of the corner of her eye, she saw a group of tiny faces looking out from their shelters, apparently something was making them quite uneasy. Her light brown orbs met the children’s expressions, and with body language they communicated the reason for tension.

A scraggily looking man was looming behind the corner of a rundown building. One by one Kazeaki picked up the position of four men, surrounding her. Word had gotten around indeed… however unlike the children, the men weren’t waiting for a kind handout.

As Kazeaki saw the four men and was focused on positioning hidden enemies an eerie wind blew. The dust on the ground swirled around beside her as a person appeared, wearing a normal shinigami robe that was slightly modified to fit the figures extremely long arms, and lacked most of the white that was usually in a shinigami's outfit, which made some suspect he was only impersonating a shinigami. His hair was long and went under his robes before it ended, so how far down it went is uncertain. However, when looking all over his body, his Zanpaktou was nowhere to be seen.

He smiled and looked at Kazeaki, his music blaring so loud it was readily audible to people roughly 5 feet away, and since Kazeaki was next to him within 3 feet, she heard nearly every word of the song. The tall figure reached up a hand into his ear and popped out the headphones and put them on his shoulders so they didn't block out surrounding noise.

"Hey, you are Kazeaki of the 11th Division, Correct? What are you doing in this district of all places. You are starting to get pretty close to the edge of the District's aren't you? Only a little under half the Districts left. Is there a reason you are going there?" The figure had, obviously, not been tailing her or he would have noticed she has been helping the needy of the districts. As he looked around he saw things very clearly, the children's eyes all staring at either him or Kazeaki, however he noticed the other eyes as well, rather quickly. He was constantly training in assassination and stealth, so concealing one's presence around him was no easy task for Soul Reapers, then alone people untrained in the arts of stealth.

"Got yourself in quite a mess, have you Kazeaki? Mind if I stick around and play a bit with your friends?" With that he smiled and looked around, putting one headphone back in and listening for Kazeaki's reply, setting her voice to be mingled into the music so that her voice would interrupt the song for a few seconds and be transmitted to his ears. He loathed doing this because it threw off his sense of rhythm occasionally, but he could still work through it, though slightly debilitated. He figured he would not need to be at peak efficiency for a bunch of thugs who did not even understand the power a Shinigami held in their hands.

Stale silence was broken by an indiscernible muffled sound in the distance, one that seemed to grow closer. Kazeaki could sense spiritual pressure akin to those who served in Seretei; though strangely… for a moment she believed to have detected two separate reiatsus. Turning to inspect the newcomers, the ex geisha found only a solitary silhouette making it’s way towards them. The man’s uniform was unusual, and tailored to peculiar dimensions, but despite the misleading impression the tall figure cast, he was indeed a shinigami.

The woman momentarily relaxed her posture, she had already begun calculating another opponent into the equation, luckily the numbers had increased in her favor instead. Admitedly the Juichibantai’s 12th seat was a bit puzzled and curious as to how this man recognized her, then again being the first female to join the combat squad since god knows how long, she was likely to stick out like a sore thumb. Momiji didn’t answer any of the following string of questions, it was hardly the time or place for casual conversation, and it didn’t take the newcomer long before he too captured the essence of the situation.

“So it would seem…“ She stated, smiling slightly in jest, towards his comment about the mess she was in.

He certainly must have been teasing, a few underfed hooligans were hardly a worry, not after having dealt with Hollows, and the likes of her division. Yet the situation did require a bit of tact. It was obvious the bandits had premeditated their actions, likely seeking to use the kids as hostages or shields. They had to neutralize them without exposing the small souls to harm. Each of the four assailants, had positioned themselves diagonally around their flanks; northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest. In the far comer, northeast, was the one closest to the helpless children, clear to the shinigami’s line of sight.

“I’m not the sort to deny a fellow fighter a bit of fun, and I believe there’s plenty to go around.” She replied cordially, wrapping her slender fingers around Yanagi’s hilt. Accepting the strangers assistance.

The band scoffed insolently at the two wanderers show of confidence, One of them stepping forward from his position.“ Quit yer yapping shinigami, just hand over everything ya got. And you can leave without having to see the little runts get hurt.”

He was no where close to the reiatsu of a trained soul reaper, but the look in his eyes was fearsome, many of the violent brutes that later reformed to enlist to the 13 protection squads were similar… wild and ruthless, spurred on by the necessities that came from having the slightest shred of spiritual power .He didn't seem at all concerned by the arrival of the tall man, despite it not being part of their plans... and a slight hint of insecurity having risen to the other gang members previously cocky expressions. The leader of the group, unsheathed his battered sword in order to prove he was deadly serious... the other three taking hold of their weapons immediately after in response.

The rather tall man laughed a bit as he noticed that his questions went unanswered. He smiled though, looking at all of the gang members in a single stroke, not missing a single thread of reiatsu, as he had taught himself to do in order to track people. The wind came again and the tall man vanished, a blur was all that could be seen, even by the other shinigami's eyes, so to the untrained thugs, it must have appeared as if had run away.

Before the second shinigami could even blink or count to four, he was back beside her. A faint echo of the word Bakudo 1:Sai and Hadou 1: Sho was heard ringing in the ears of the 12th seat 4 times. Nearly a second later each of the flanking members of the gang were pushed out of their positions and on the ground with their hands stuck behind their backs and their bodies unable to move. The tall figure tried to hide a grimace as the, seemingly, commander looked in a bit of awkwardness at his fallen comrades, unable to tell what happened or why the man ran away just to come back.

The tall figure smiled and bowed gently at the 12th seat. "I am Takauiji Ashikaga, of the second division. Good to meet you Kazeaki, of the 12th squad. Do you think you are fine with the rest of them. I am going to take these children a place somewhat more safe, a battleground is no place for the young ones." With that the large figure strode over to the children, not paying the other goons any mind and he bent over and smiled, "Are you hungry children?" he spoke softly to the children, but without a hint of worry or fear from the other goons. "Do you children have a home to go to?" his voice was soft, but it carried clear to the 12th easily.

(You control the last two goons and the kids, do you mind?)
